Using evidence based research to develop best practice
Valerie Damsma is a clinical social worker and psychotherapist that
has been providing counselling services for over 20 years. She holds an undergraduate degree in psychology, a graduate degree in social work, and trained under the clinical supervision of a marriage & family therapist. Valerie integrates the perspectives of these three different disciplines to help guide her practice and understanding of what it means to provide counselling services.
Shortly after completing her education Valerie trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) as a way to better serve her clients. As the focus of her work became more trauma related she began incorporating EMDR into all aspects of her therapy.

Valerie is currently registered with EMDRIA as a Consultant-in-Training. She offers consultation to trained EMDR Therapists. Valerie has advanced training and experience in EMDR as it relates to: Complex Trauma & Dissociation, Children & Adolescence, Emergency Procedure, Early Interventions, and FLASH technique.
